Liberty Elevator To Exhibit At The IREM Tri-State Expo

Liberty Elevator Corporation is gearing up for another successful year at the IREM Tri-State Conference and Expo. The show will be held at the Borgata Hotel Casino and Spa in Atlantic City, NJ on Thursday, February 23 and Friday, February 24. Director of Operations, John Miller, and Marketing Director, TinaMarie Shea, will be representing Liberty at booth #69 on Thursday, February 23.

The 2017 show theme is Winning Together, Lessons in Success. In honor of the theme, Liberty will be conducting team-focused exercises at their booth, with participants being qualified for a door prize! When you work together, everyone wins!

Liberty is co-sponsoring the corporate education session, “What The Fire Inspector Looks For,” from 2:15 pm – 3:30 pm on Thursday, February 23, as a part of the Business Development Alliance (BDA). The BDA, which Liberty is one of the founding members of, is supporting this education session which will aid property managers in understanding the multi-faceted aspects of a fire inspection. Protect Your Elevator Equipment

Winter is coming. The ominous sentence, as made famous by the Game of Thrones series, is a message worth heeding for property owners and managers.

As winter approaches, many of us are inundated with office parties and holiday shopping, while simultaneously trying to enjoy the festive atmosphere. Modern Americans are busier than ever, which is why it’s easy to neglect the potential for elevator damage during the winter months.

Cold weather can have a potentially adverse affect of your elevator equipment. Not to worry – we’ve compiled some helpful tips to help alleviate any concerns.

Winter Weather Prep: Winter storms happen. Although the snow may provide the backdrop for an idyllic landscape, high winds and melting snow can prove to be detrimental to your elevator equipment.

  • Always ensure your elevator room is between 45 and 90 degrees Farenheit with relative humidity not exceeding 85%
  • “Run” your hydraulic elevators. If you have a busy morning traffic pattern, it’s recommended to run the elevators to the middle floors and back a few times in the morning to circulate the oil
  • Should your machine room be subject to the elements, check the weather stripping around your doors. It is important that this is intact, so replace or repair if necessary
  • Inspect and protect louvers and vents for possible water entrances
  • If your machine room has windows, these can be blown out by strong winds. To prevent water damage, fasten sheets of heavy plywood over the windows
  • To avoid a possible entrapment in the event of a power failure, it is recommended to suspend the usage of your elevator
  • You don’t want your elevator cars, counterweights and traveling cables to sustain water damage from water entering the pit. To avoid this, park all elevators near the center of the hoistway
  • In order to avoid damage from the outside elements, position your elevators at the top floor, if there are any entrances open to the weather, such as in a parking garage
  • You can shut down the mainline disconnect in the machine room to shut down your elevator. (Note: please ensure that the person performing this action is qualified and trained with the electrical equipment and is aware of the potential hazards associated with it).

Liberty Elevator Corporation to Attend United in Montreal 2016

Liberty Elevator’s team will join other North American elevator industry leaders at United in Montreal, a conference hosted by the National Association of Elevator Contractors (NAEC), International Association of Elevator Consultants (IAEC), and the Canadian Elevator Contractors Association. The conference is hosted at Le Westin Montreal and Palais des Congres de Montreal from September 19-22, 2016.

The newest technologies and products in the elevator industry will be exhibited–automation systems, ropes, controls, electrical supplies, and more. Over 200 exhibitors from around the world will present on Wednesday and Thursday. Local 5 IUEC Participates in “Fight Night” To Support Injured Veterans

Philadelphia, PA – (September 2, 2016) – On September 17, 2016 at 2:00 pm, members of Local 5’s charitable organization, A Lift For A Vet, will be boxing at Katie O’ Donnell’s Irish pub in an effort to raise funds to support injured United State’s veterans.

One hundred percent of the proceeds generated will benefit A Lift For A Vet, which seeks to purchase, install, and maintain vertical transportation systems in the homes of disabled U.S. military veterans at no cost to the recipient.

Terry Saunders, Local 5 local5_logomember, Liberty Elevator employee and U.S. Marine will be fighting in the event, managed by Costello Boxing Club. Saunders was an active duty Marine from 1999-2003 and was deployed to Kuwait where he participated in Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2003, prior to being honorably discharged. Saunders is happy to participate in the event, noting, “Anything that helps my fellow veterans.”

2014 NYC Construction Codes – Elevator Brake Maintenance Requirements

Pursuant to the 2014 NYC Building Code (“Code”) APPENDIX K, Chapter K1, Section 8.6.4.1, “the driving-machine brake shall be maintained annually to ensure proper operations…” This includes maintenance of the residual pads (anti-magnetic pads,) lining and running clearances; pins and levers; spring; sleeves and guide bushings; discs and drums; and brake coil and plunger.

In addition, any devices and/or controller software to monitor the brake system must be operational and maintained as needed. The Code requires records to be kept of such maintenance, and the attachment of a metal tag on the controller indicating the elevator maintenance company and date of service.

Full compliance with the requirements of this new code shall be December 31, 2016 and every year thereafter. Please note that all customers affected by this new code will receive a proposal to perform the annual brake maintenance.

Code Update

Compliance with these provisions is not only required by the law*, but is essential to ensure public safety.

It’s important for every machine brake to be properly examined. If these examined brakes fail, the DOB should be contacted immediately and the buildings should cease the use of the elevator equipment. The agency director must sign off on the inspections prior to putting the elevator or elevators back into service.

This compliance is to continue to improve elevator safety and ensure the welfare of the public.

* Noncompliance with this maintenance requirement by January 1, 2016, may result in DOB enforcement action.

PATERSON, NJ – (April 18, 2016) – Liberty Elevator Corporation was nominated for BUILD Magazine’s 2016 Architecture Awards in the category: Refurbishments and Renovation/ Addition/ Adaptation. This prestigious nomination is in reference to the cab refurbishment work Liberty completed at 500 Plaza Drive in Secaucus, NJ.

Voting has commenced on BUILD’s website where nominations can be submitted in a wide number of categories. These awards seek to showcase the design work of artists, designers, and visionaries who have made tremendous contributions to the construction and property industries. Nominations are not restricted based on size or job title.

The five-passenger cab renovation was contracted to be commence in the summer of 2015. The work included new Bendheim back painted glass panels and stainless steel # 4 edge binders. Marcus Partners chose the durable and aesthetically pleasing removable lower mesh panels with stainless steel # 4 face binders. The chair rail, base, handrails, and reveals all matched the sleek stainless steel # 4 finish to complete the clean, modern look.

Press Release Update: Liberty Elevator Corporation to Install New Elevators at Ellis Island

NJ elevator company secures installation contract

PATERSON, NJ – (March 9, 2016) – After two successful projects with the National Park Service at The Statue of Liberty, Liberty Elevator has been selected by Perini Management Services, Inc. to remove and install four elevators at Ellis Island.
Perini Management Services, Inc. is the General Contractor for the project, which involves the installation of four new gearless, machine-room-less (MRL) elevators. After learning Liberty’s unique history with the Statue of Liberty, Perini chose Liberty as the vertical transportation provider.

Two of the four original shafts were built for hydraulic elevators, making the overhead restrictions tight for the specified MRL elevators. Liberty recognized the need for a custom solution and partnered a reliable manufacturer to design a MRL in accordance with the existing low overhead restrictions. In addition, the existing shaft needed to be reinforced to accommodate the rail reactions for the new design.
The four (4) car installation is slated for completion mid-August.

Liberty Elevator Corporation To Exhibit At The Buildings NY Show

PATERSON, NJ(March 2, 2016) – For the fourth consecutive year, Liberty Elevator Corporation will exhibit at the BuildingsNY tradeshow at the Jacob Javits Center in New York, NY on May 24 and 25, 2016. Liberty representatives Sean Brock, John Miller, and TinaMarie Shea will be at corner booth number 248.

The two-day show features exhibitors from marketing and leasing, building automation, environmental, maintenance and operations, security and life safety, design and construction, restoration and renovation, energy and energy management, and disaster relief sectors. Building owners, property and facility managers, superintendents, architects and contractors are encouraged to attend between the hours of 10 am and 5 pm on May 24th and 10 am and 4 pm on May 25th.
