Liberty Elevator Corporation is looking for a proven Safety Director to join the Paterson, NJ team. This essential position will be responsible for rolling out companywide safety programs, overseeing job site safety protocols plus investigating & documenting safety violations. This position will be responsible for client & employee incident reports and following up with appropriate Union & Insurance agents when necessary.
This Position will spend equal time in the field & in the office at Liberty headquarters, 63 East 24th Street, Paterson, NJ. Field territory includes: NYC Metro, NJ, Philadelphia Metro, Eastern PA.
Safety Director Job Summary/Objective
The Environment Health and Safety Manager provides technical environment, health & safety (EH&S) support to field and territory personnel and staff. The EH&S Manager assists the superintendents, forepersons, warehouse personnel, etc.) with all aspects implementing an environment safety and health program and achieving annual EH&S objectives buy using the company EH&S Management System. They will help with training coordination and execution and providing feedback based on observations and inspections. The Safety Manager shall monitor environmental health and safety regulations and provides technical support to area and territory personnel to ensure compliance with federal, state or local EH&S regulations.
Safety Director Essential Functions
- Acts as a EH&S resource for managers at all levels within a specified area of responsibility.
- Provides technical environment health & safety support and information to managers with direct mechanic oversight (existing installation, new installation, modernization).
- Assist with the preparation of local written safety and health programs and policies, including any site-specific safety plans for larger projects, Job Hazard Analysis, (JHA), Method of Procedure (MOPS).
- Supports sales team members with the development of bids as required specific to EH&S.
- Provides training program guidance for scheduled safety training. Guidance includes how regular scheduled training is to be executed and what information is required to be communicated during training events.
- Contributes to the development of annual company, area and territory specific EH&S goals.
- Responsible for maintaining records for all training, employee certifications, meetings and employee compliance.
- When required, participates in new product/process reviews, including process hazard analyses, methods development, training and management of change activities.
- Supports area personnel in selection of appropriate personal protective equipment. Ensure all employees have proper PPE, possession is documented and employees are trained to properly use.
- Works with management to set up and maintain a safety library (e.g., training records, jobsite inspections, No Go Field Evaluations {NGFE} documents, regulations, reference manuals.
- Promotes safety and health awareness using company training programs.
- Assists as necessary with incident investigations and development of reports, presentation and implementation of incident corrective action(s)
- Reviews corporate or area methods and procedures/records and provides input for EH&S considerations.
- Understands federal and state occupational EH&S regulations and monitors regulatory changes as they occur.
- Provides technical support to personnel to ensure compliance with applicable occupational EH&S regulations.
- Advises territory, district, and corporate staff of regulatory changes with which the company must comply. Sufficient advance notice should be provided so that compliance on the effective date of new regulations is ensured.
- Audits practices and records of districts to ensure compliance with company programs and federal/state occupational safety and health regulations.
- Monitors lost-time injuries/illnesses and worker’s compensation claims.
- Reviews all incidents within their area of responsibility to include not only incidents resulting in personal injury, but incidents with property damage or had the potential to result in a serious injury.
- Reviews injury/illness and no injury incident investigation reports and follows up as necessary.
- Establishes strategic goals by gathering pertinent business, financial, service, and operations information; identifying and evaluating trends and options; choosing a course of action; defining objectives; evaluating outcomes.
Additional Safety Director responsibilities:
- ISNetworld, Avetta and other customer required portal compliance
- Management and upkeep of General Safety Manual
- Management and upkeep of Site-Specific Manuals and requirements
- Prequalification Safety Questionnaires
- Validation of OSHA Logs
- Safety train all new employees
- Plan and run bi-monthly safety meetings for all departments
- Site visits after Workers Comp incidents and retrain employee if needed
- Site visits after GL incidents
- Attend depositions for insurance claims
Qualifications / Required Skills:
- Minimum of 3-5 years’ experience as a Safety Manager or Director in the elevator industry
- Proficient in Microsoft Office
- Excellent communication and presentation skills
- Strong organizational skills and detail oriented
- Ability to work well under pressure
- Capacity to motivate and lead others
- Clean/valid driver’s license (travel is required to various jobsites)
